MEMORIAL

The International Marek Petrusewicz Memorial is a competition with over 30 years of tradition. It is held annually in Wrocław to commemorate the first Polish World Record Holder – Marek Petrusewicz. For many years, the competition was held at the Municipal Bathing Plant in Wrocław on Teatralna Street, the place where Marek Petrusewicz broke the World Record in the 100 m breaststroke.

These competitions are also distinguished by their integrative nature, bringing together the swimming community. In addition to the top Polish and foreign swimmers, disabled competitors also compete in them. Year after year, the incredible atmosphere of the Memorial attracts more and more competitors to the competition.

Due to infrastructure reasons, in 2005, the Marek Petrusewicz Memorial was held for the first time at the new swimming pool of the Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław and stayed there for 12 years. In 2017, the Memorial moved to the newly built The World Games swimming pool in Wrocław on Wejherowska Street. The swimming pool was also named after Marek Petrusewicz. Over the years, many Polish Records, European Records and World Records have been set at the Marek Petrusewicz Memorial in the category of disabled swimmers.

It was undoubtedly the best junior swimming event in Poland. The best swimmers in the country competed there, and the annual Memorial final in the 100 m breaststroke among boys gave every spectator at the swimming pool „goosebumps”. Since 2018, the competition formula has been expanded to include competitors in the Senior category, thanks to which the Marek Petrusewicz Memorial Event has entered the calendar of the most important swimming events in Poland with a bang, quickly becoming their leader.
